SalamAir, Oman's Low-cost Airline to Launch Direct Flights From Muscat to Nairobi

Introduction

Oman’s low-cost airline, SalamAir, is launching a Nairobi route to attract more travelers to the country and its airline.

Nairobi has become a hotspot for airlines, with exciting new developments highlighting the city as a gateway to Africa.

AirAsia recently launched flights to Nairobi and opened its first African office here, while Etihad has resumed flying to Nairobi.

Adding to the excitement and trust, Emirates chose Nairobi’s The Cube along Riverside Drive to open its first World Store in Africa.

When will the airline start flying to Nairobi?

Starting 3rd February 2025, SalamAir will be flying to Nairobi twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Adrian Hamilton-Manns, the airline’s CEO had this to say: “We are thrilled to add Nairobi to our expanding network, marking a significant milestone in our expansion into the African market. Nairobi is not only a hub for international travelers but also a growing center for business, technology, and education, making it a vital link for those looking to connect with opportunities in both regions, emphasizing Nairobi’s position as the key gateway to East Africa. With Nairobi added to our network, we can now connect passengers from East Africa to India, Thailand, Central Asia, and other points on our network for very low fares.

How much will flights cost?

Being a low-cost airline, the fares are definitely cheaper than most major airlines like Qatar, Emirates or Etihad.

A one-way flight to Muscat from Nairobi will cost 49 OMR, about Ksh 17,000.

The Middle East is quickly becoming a favorite destination for Kenyans and Africans, and SalamAir is poised to tap into this growing trend, aiming to boost the number of travelers heading to Oman.

In 2023, Oman welcomed nearly 4 million tourists and this number is projected to increase. The forecast is that by the end of 2024, tourism will contribute about 7.6% of the nation’s GDP.
